Passport to Success

Passport to Success, KES's student-led conference, received rave reviews from parents, teachers and students alike. The evening was entertaining, exciting and empowering as students explained their learning and accomplishments to their parents through presentations, demonstrations, participation and video. It was quite the trip. What do we expect following a "world tour?" A slideshow, of course. Enjoy!

KMS Band students shine at conference music contest

The Kirbyville Middle School Band students had a great showing at the SWCL Junior High Music Contest last Saturday at Spokane Middle School. The performers played for judges who rated the performances using a standard I – V rating system with a I being Superior.

The Kirbyville band received a I (Superior) rating. 17 of the 25 band students entered in 16 different solo, duet, and trio events. Kirbyville Band individual and ensemble students received 14 Superior (I) ratings and 2 Excellent (II)ratings.

Band director, John Casebourn stated, "I’m very proud of the band students’ awesome achievements as well as their excellent behavior and the way they represented Kirbyville."

Dear Kirbyville Families,

I found my census form hanging on the door when I got home today. I already filled it out and put it in the mailbox. Be sure and fill out your form when you get it. It is quick, painless and the results matter to your local schools, municipalities and more.

Kirbyville Elementary takes on the Raise a Reader Challenge

KES Families,

Help our school win $5,000 for our library! We've entered a nationwide reading contest and we need your help. The Raise a Reader School Challenge, sponsored by the International Reading Association, Parents magazine, and Parents.com, is rewarding the school that reads the most this spring.

Starting March 8, follow this link http://parents.com/reading/kirbyvilleelementaryschoolkirmo and register your K-3 child for the reading program. The program is totally free and records minutes, books read, and even has a print option if you'd like to track your little reader's achievements. Individual readers are also eligible to win $50 gift cards to Barnes and Noble.

For your convenience, the opportunity to register will be provided at Passport to Success on Thursday, March 11. If you do not have a computer or Internet access, you will be able to turn in your reading minutes on paper and they can be entered in your child's account by a parent volunteer.

2010 Census "Portrait of America" Road Tour

The 2010 Census “Portrait of America” Road Tour Rolls Into Southwest Missouri

BRANSON, Mo. - The 2010 Census “Portrait of America” Road Tour is part of the largest civic outreach and awareness campaign in U.S. history — stopping and exhibiting at more than 800 events nationwide. The goal is to motivate and empower America's growing and increasingly diverse population to complete and mail back the 10-question census form when it arrives in mailboxes March 15-17.

Traveling for a total of 1,547 days and more than 150,000 miles across the country, one of 13 Road Tour vehicles, “Decennial,” will roll into Branson at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday March 9^th. It will be at the IMAX Entertainment Complex, 3562 Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, until 4 p.m.

At this historic event, the Road Tour will provide attendees with an educational, engaging and interactive experience that brings the 2010 Census to life, focusing on what a complete count can bring to communities everywhere including Taney and Stone Counties as well as all of Southwest Missouri.

The public will be able to view a sample 2010 Census form and learn how the collected information is used. They also may contribute stories and photos to the Portrait of America project to explain why “I count!” and view messages from other road tour participants.

The public will also be treated to more than 25 community booths featured in the “Spirit of Community” information expo. Organizations from all over Taney and Stone counties will showcase services they provide and discuss how census data benefits their organizations. Live entertainment from local Branson entertainers, prizes, performances by local school musical groups and much more will be offered to the general public free of charge from 10:30 a.m. until 7 p.m.
