Grandparents read in the library...

Grandparent’s Day extended into Grandparent’s Week in the KES library! Mrs. Miller, librarian, extended an invitation to grandparents from each class to join the library class periods and/or Buddy Reading this week. This was a great opportunity for grandparents and grandchildren alike to bond with a shared reading experience.

If you are a grandparent, and didn’t have an opportunity this week to visit our library this week, we would like to extend an open invitation to visit our library classes or Buddy Reading times as a guest reader. Call Mrs. Miller at the elementary office, 334-2757, for more information.

KES celebrated "Grandparents Day" for an entire week by inviting grandparents to read to classes in the library. Each day during library time and during our Buddy Reading times on Friday, grandparents of Kirbyville students read stories to the students. It was a great time for everyone!

The Missouri Parent Information Center, working in conjunction with the Springfield-Greene Co. Library, provided each first grade student in Taney County Title 1 schools with the gift of a book. The Kirbyville first graders were very excited to receive their very own copy of a Junie B. Jones book, by Barbara Park. Junie B. is an inquisitive, lovable and often mischievous first grade student who finds herself in all sorts of adventures and misadventures. The book is definitely at a first grade interest level, but in most cases is a read-aloud selection at this point in the year.

Included with the book was information for parents about literacy and some tips to make family reading enjoyable. The purpose of the gift was to encourage families to make reading together a regular habit.
