Teacher Appreciation Week May 4-8, 2009

To: Kirbyville Parents and/or Guardians
From: Dawn Motley, Kirbyville PTO

It’s that time of year again. TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK is just around the corner. May 4th – 8th, 2009. I thought it would be nice to get a jump on things by sending this email/handout early enough to get suggestions, ideas and volunteers.

Please email me at
KirbyvilleMoPTO@yahoo.com with any suggestions and/or ideas you may have for our Kirbyville Elementary and Middle School’s Teacher Appreciation Week. Also, let me know if you are interested in volunteering for any of the days during this special week. I have listed some items below that may spur some ideas. Feel free to expand on them or come up with some of your own. Let’s show the teachers how much we appreciate what they do for our kids.

· Someone or some organization(s) could volunteer his/her/their time and/or services for one or two days during Teacher Appreciation Week - Chiropractor, Manicure/Pedicure Specialist, Chef, Massage Therapist, etc. Anything that would be appreciated by the staff.

· Volunteer to bring a dish for breakfast and/or lunch for the teachers/staff. Also, it might be interesting to see how many people would be willing to purchase something to feed our teachers and staff for each day of the week. That would be morning or lunch meal at both schools. Depending on the response, maybe a combination of covered dishes and catered meals could be accomplished. If covered dish meals are used we need to remember to list the ingredients to address any food allergies that others might have.

· Volunteer your time at the school to help not only your child’s teacher, but the entire staff. This could be just a few hours or a whole day – the whole week even! Your help not only shows the staff you care, but also lets your child know that you are there for him/her as well.

. Think about it. If you have other ideas just drop me an email or call Rhonda at the Elementary School (334-2757) and she’ll pass on the message. The PTO will, of course, be helping, but your help really makes this special for the teachers and your kids.

Thank you,
Dawn Motley

PTO hosts movie night

It's not too often that there is a fun family event that is totally free! A free movie. Free popcorn. Free pop. Even door prizes for all.

The Kirbyville PTO recently sponsored a Family Movie Night to thank our families for their support this year of PTO activities. The feature presentation was WALL-E. Families brought their own chairs and the "big screen" movie was projected on the wall in the cafeteria. Approximately 80 people took advantage of the activity.

The PTO will likely plan additional family evenings in the future and hope that even more families will participate!

Enjoy a few scenes from the evening's events:

PTO Christmas Craft Show Info

The Kirbyville PTO is preparing for our very 2nd annual Christmas Craft Show which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 at KES. We need crafters/dealers, volunteers to help work the craft show and/or donated items for the two PTO booths (Santa and gift wrapping table). We will have a gift wrapping table and a "Photo with Santa" space. We will need volunteers to help with concessions, door greeters, gift wrapping table, photo with Santa, etc. In order for us to keep the prices low, we need help...we need boxes of all sizes (mostly med. to sm.), gift wrap, gift bags, ribbon, bows, name tags, tissue and ink/photo paper for Santa photos (Polaroid instant film is too expensive). If you have any of these items and/or would like to donate/volunteer please contact Rhonda (KES Elementary office) or drop off any donated items at the elementary school office (attn: Dawn). If you know of any crafters or dealers who may like to rent a booth space or know of any business that would be willing to make a charitable donation for the gift wrap table or Santa photos please have them contact Rhonda at the elementary office at (417)334-2757 or email us at KirbyvilleMOPTO@yahoo.com

Thank you in advance for any help you can give. :)

PTO Participates in Belk Charity Days...

Do you know 10 people who like to shop? (Seriously, who doesn't?!?) Do you think those10 people would like to help a charity while shopping? (Another no brainer!) Well, here is your chance to combine shopping and helping all at once - The Kirbyville PTO has signed up to participate in Belk's Annual Charity Day!

Belk Department Store on the Landing will be sponsoring a 4 hour sale that benefits charities. They have provided $5 coupons/tickets which entitle the purchaser to $5 off their first purchase at Belk’s and the opportunity to qualify for a $1,000.00 Belk shopping spree.

Here’s how Kirbyville benefits – the PTO gets to keep ALL the proceeds from any pre-sales of the coupons we make, let me stress KIRBYVILLE KEEPS ALL THE PROCEEDS OF PRE-SALES OF THE COUPONS/TICKETS. For example, if we sell 100 coupons/tickets at $5.00 each the PTO gets to keep the entire $500.00 we raise. This is an event that is geared towards charities and is a win-win proposition for participants.

We are asking for your help. Would you be willing to take on 10 tickets (or more) to sell to your friends, family, church, etc for $5 each? These tickets can be used on November 15th, 2008 from 6am-10am at Belk’s for $5.00 off their first purchase of any one $10 (or more) item! Plus, they can register to win a $1,000 Belk shopping spree. Even if you can’t attend, purchasing a ticket ahead of time is a donation to the Kirbyville Schools and your kids. If you can’t go, just give the ticket to a friend and at least get signed up for the $1,000.00 shopping spree. Click on the link for Belk’s Store Ad on Kirbyville PTO’s site for specifics. (http://www.kirbyville.k12.mo.us/nov.htm)

Kirbyville has many needs. Last year the PTO purchased new playground equipment for the elementary school, which depleted most of the PTO monies! It is time to replenish our cash! This is a great opportunity to make some money for our kids and their needs. Please help as much as you can.

We will be having a bake sale at Belk’s on the day of the event. Please sign up to bake items in groups of 2-4 (ie, cookies, brownies, etc). Items that shoppers can eat on the go! J

Thank you for all the help you can give,

Dawn Motley
