Parents as Teachers Easter Egg Hunt...

A late afternoon thunderstorm didn't dampen the spirit at the Kirbyville Parents as Teachers 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt for children 3 and under. The activity was moved indoors. Several children had a wonderful time gathering colorful eggs from the elementary school hallway. Eggs contained small prizes such as stickers and whistles and larger prizes such as gift cards for Dairy Queen Blizzards donated by the Dairy Queen on Hwy 248 and $5 gift cards to Orange Julius donated by Orange Julius in Branson.

The Kirbyville Parents as Teachers program provides developmental screening and information for families with children under age 5. A weekly playgroup is held on Wednesday afternoons. For more information contact parent educator, Jamie Bogacz at 334-2537.

Parents as Teachers Update

Parents As Teachers needs your help in recruiting Kirbyville families for our program! Any currently enrolled PAT family will receive a $10 Wal-Mart gift card for recruiting a new family to our program upon their enrollment and completion of at least one personal visit. Also, there will be a drawing for a $10 Wal-Mart gift card for those families in attendance at each of the remaining group meetings. Gift cards will be available until PAT funds are exhausted.

Weekly playgroups are held every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the PAT room at Kirbyville Elementary. You are encouraged to participate in these playgroups as they allow children to engage in activities, with their peers, that stimulate motor, intellectual, language, and social-emotional development. You are invited to engage in discussions with other parents in our community while enjoying refreshments. Approximately once a month, the playgroup is replaced with a themed group meeting.

Playgroups and appointments are automatically canceled when school is not in session.

January

Please pick up this month’s parenting resource located on the parents’ information table. Playgroup is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesdays. Our group meeting will be on Wednesday, January 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in our PAT room. The theme of the meeting will be ‘Sharing is Caring!’ We will discuss sibling rivalry and ways to promote positive play among children. Handouts will be distributed. Our parent-child activity will be making bagel bird feeders. School will be in session on Monday, January 18 as this is an inclement weather make-up day.

Floored by progress...

Construction continues on the PAT and preschool building. Painting is complete and cabinets and plumbing have been installed. As of Saturday evening the tile was installed in the preschool room. The plan is that the tile in the entryway, hallway and PAT room will be completed today.

The rooms will not be ready for Open House. Preschool parents should meet the teacher in the elementary cafeteria. Parents as Teachers will have a table set up in the elementary building.

We anticipate starting preschool on the 17th in the new room. There will be some furnishing items and details that will be completed in the next few weeks, but nothing that we cannot work around. The plan is to move in on Saturday, August 15th.

We are looking for volunteer help, as this is a large task to accomplish over a weekend. There are jobs for any willing adult: lifting and moving boxes and furniture, assembling new furniture, unpacking, organizing and decorating. If you are able to help with this, please call the elementary office and ask to speak with Lynna Blevins.

Not everyone has been on summer vacation. Progress continues on the preschool and PAT building. The most recent progress includes painting, adding ceiling tile grids and vents and pouring sidewalks and an entryway.

Under the big top!

The top construction news this week is that the new preschool/PAT facility is almost under roof! The construction workers rolled out the insulation and began covering it with the metal roof this week. The picture is a little hazy because it was taken on the morning of one of the hottest days so far this year!

A room with a view...

Check out the view from the new Parents as Teachers office. The large picture window provides a lovely view of the preschool playground, which will be alive with activity in August when the new school year begins.

New construction underway!!!

The ground has been broken behind the elementary building in preparation for the new permanent facility that will house the preschool and the Parents as Teachers program. The new construction is expected to be complete prior to the start of the 2009-10 school year.

For everyone's safety, the back parking lot may no longer be accessed by faculty, staff or parent vehicles. Preschool parents will park in the field and walk around through the gate on the opposite side of the building. No students will be allowed to transition between buildings or go to or from recess through the back doors.
Keep watching the blog for continuing updates of our construction progress!!!

Preschool/PAT move to new temporary locations

As a preliminary step towards building on a new preschool that is attached to the main building, preschool and PAT are moving to temporary locations. Starting Monday, January 26 the preschool will be in what is currently the PAT building. This just represents a move from one side of the preschool playground to the other. Phone contact numbers will remain the same.

Thank-you to all the volunteers who moved the preschool furnishings and materials to the new location on Saturday morning.

The Parents as Teachers (PAT) program will operate out of the elementary building in the current music room. Participants in this program will need to check in at the office and then will be directed to the new location. Parking is in the lot on the east side of the elementary playground. Please refrain from parking in the bus lane or the fire lane at any time. The PAT phone contact information will remain the same at 334-2537.

The music classes will be temporarily located in the current science lab.

The new preschool building will provide safe, comfortable, state-of-the-art facilities for our little guys and gals!
