2010-11 Kirbyville Preschool Enrollment...

The Kirbyville R-VI School District will be preschool enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year from 9:00-11:15 and 12:30 to 5:15 on Tuesday, April 27 at the Kirbyville Elementary School. Preschool students must be at least 3 by August 1, 2010.

Appointments are required. Parents of preschoolers should call the Kirbyville Preschool at 239-3917 beginning Wednesday, April 7.

The primary goal of the Kirbyville Preschool is to prepare the 3 to 5-year-olds for kindergarten. Students learn pre-academic skills in a structured atmosphere that prepares the preschool children for daily routines in kindergarten. In addition to the academic instruction, social and emotional growth and development of expressive and receptive language skills are stressed. The preschool has been very successful in meeting this goal in terms of general kindergarten readiness and results of a test measuring kindergarten students’ understanding of print concepts. Kirbyville Preschool is a parent-pay program. Tuition is currently $13.00 per day. Parents of preschoolers must bring a birth certificate and immunization records to complete the enrollment process. Kirbyville Preschool does accept out of district enrollment if space permits. Preschool enrollment takes approximately 30 minutes and includes a developmental questionnaire for parents. Hearing and vision screening is available. Please call the Kirbyville Preschool (239-3917) if you have any questions regarding preschool enrollment.

Floored by progress...

Construction continues on the PAT and preschool building. Painting is complete and cabinets and plumbing have been installed. As of Saturday evening the tile was installed in the preschool room. The plan is that the tile in the entryway, hallway and PAT room will be completed today.

The rooms will not be ready for Open House. Preschool parents should meet the teacher in the elementary cafeteria. Parents as Teachers will have a table set up in the elementary building.

We anticipate starting preschool on the 17th in the new room. There will be some furnishing items and details that will be completed in the next few weeks, but nothing that we cannot work around. The plan is to move in on Saturday, August 15th.

We are looking for volunteer help, as this is a large task to accomplish over a weekend. There are jobs for any willing adult: lifting and moving boxes and furniture, assembling new furniture, unpacking, organizing and decorating. If you are able to help with this, please call the elementary office and ask to speak with Lynna Blevins.

Under the big top!

The top construction news this week is that the new preschool/PAT facility is almost under roof! The construction workers rolled out the insulation and began covering it with the metal roof this week. The picture is a little hazy because it was taken on the morning of one of the hottest days so far this year!

A room with a view...

Check out the view from the new Parents as Teachers office. The large picture window provides a lovely view of the preschool playground, which will be alive with activity in August when the new school year begins.

New construction underway!!!

The ground has been broken behind the elementary building in preparation for the new permanent facility that will house the preschool and the Parents as Teachers program. The new construction is expected to be complete prior to the start of the 2009-10 school year.

For everyone's safety, the back parking lot may no longer be accessed by faculty, staff or parent vehicles. Preschool parents will park in the field and walk around through the gate on the opposite side of the building. No students will be allowed to transition between buildings or go to or from recess through the back doors.

Preschool/PAT move to new temporary locations

As a preliminary step towards building on a new preschool that is attached to the main building, preschool and PAT are moving to temporary locations. Starting Monday, January 26 the preschool will be in what is currently the PAT building. This just represents a move from one side of the preschool playground to the other. Phone contact numbers will remain the same.

Thank-you to all the volunteers who moved the preschool furnishings and materials to the new location on Saturday morning.

The Parents as Teachers (PAT) program will operate out of the elementary building in the current music room. Participants in this program will need to check in at the office and then will be directed to the new location. Parking is in the lot on the east side of the elementary playground. Please refrain from parking in the bus lane or the fire lane at any time. The PAT phone contact information will remain the same at 334-2537.

The music classes will be temporarily located in the current science lab.

The new preschool building will provide safe, comfortable, state-of-the-art facilities for our little guys and gals!
