Kirbyville School District receives Distinction in Performance Award from DESE
Kirbyville R-VI School District was one of over 300 Missouri school districts that qualified for the state’s “Distinction in Performance” award on the basis of their academic achievements and progress during the last school year. In all, 319 school districts earned the coveted award, which is presented annually by the state education department. Of this year’s recipients, 266 are K-12 districts; 53 are K-8 districts. There are 523 public school districts in the state.
To qualify for the award this year, K-8 districts had to meet 6 of the 7 performance standards that apply to these districts, including all of those based on the results of MAP tests. Under the state’s accreditation program, each school district is evaluated at least once every five years. Since it is based on the same standards as the accreditation program, the Distinction in Performance award provides an annual confirmation of a district’s status and state-level recognition of its overall performance. Representatives of the district will attend an annual banquet on February 23 in Springfield to receive the award along with other districts in southwest Missouri. The Kirbyville School District has received this designation for seven of the past nine years.

Parents as Teachers Update
Parents As Teachers needs your help in recruiting Kirbyville families for our program! Any currently enrolled PAT family will receive a $10 Wal-Mart gift card for recruiting a new family to our program upon their enrollment and completion of at least one personal visit. Also, there will be a drawing for a $10 Wal-Mart gift card for those families in attendance at each of the remaining group meetings. Gift cards will be available until PAT funds are exhausted.
Weekly playgroups are held every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the PAT room at Kirbyville Elementary. You are encouraged to participate in these playgroups as they allow children to engage in activities, with their peers, that stimulate motor, intellectual, language, and social-emotional development. You are invited to engage in discussions with other parents in our community while enjoying refreshments. Approximately once a month, the playgroup is replaced with a themed group meeting.
Playgroups and appointments are automatically canceled when school is not in session.
