KES hosts student-led conferences

KES is trying something new this year. We have added third quarter conferences on Thursday, March 11 to our schedule to provide the opportunity for you to see how your child is doing as we round the corner into the home stretch of the school year. The format of these conferences will be different for most students. We will be trying student led conferences for the first time.
During the hours of 3:30 to 5:30 you and your child are invited to visit the classroom and your child will have a selection of school work, test results, demonstrations and/or other artifacts that display your child’s progress during the year and his/her current level of performance. Your child will be prepared to explain these items to you and your child’s teacher will be on hand to answer questions and facilitate the event. You will be able to come and go anytime during the open hours and spend as much time as you like reviewing your child’s work.
There are, of course, some circumstances (academic, behavioral or other concerns) which will require a more private conference. In these situations, which may be initiated by the teacher or parent, there will be individual conference times available by appointment around school hours that week (any day except Thursday). We do ask that if your child’s teacher contacts you for a one-on-one conference, that you please take advantage of that opportunity as a way to work together to improve your child’s school experience. This does not preclude you and your child from attending the evening event on March 11. Even if there are concerns with your child’s progress, he/she will definitely benefit from the opportunity to show you his/her accomplishments. All of our kids have grown and learned this year and it is definitely something to celebrate!

Middle school holds 3rd quarter conferences...

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences at the Middle School will be held on Tuesday, March 9th from 3:30-6:30p.m. and Thursday, March 11th from 3:30-6:00p.m. Fourth and fifth grade parents will be contacted by their students teacher to set up an appointment. The sixth through eighth grade parents are welcome to attend either night, Tuesday, March 9th or Thursday, March 11th, on a come and go basis. Art work from your child will also be displayed in the hallways. Thank you for your willingness to support your child by coming to see their teachers and all the hard work they have done.

Sewer Improvments to benefit the middle school

As the Village of Kirbyville makes sewer improvements financed by Transform Missouri (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) the Kirbyville Middle School will benefit by being able to hook up to the system.

Parents and Children-Beginning at the Beginning

Parents As Teachers is a family education and support program that provides the necessary resources to parents for fostering their child’s development. Let PAT assist you in laying the foundation for your child’s success in school and in life!

The components of the Kirbyville Parents As Teachers program are designed to empower parents.

Personal visits provide the opportunity to familiarize parents with child development information, increase understanding of their child’s behavior, and promote family bonding through involvement in age-appropriate activities.

Weekly playgroups enhance the child’s social skills through peer interaction.

Developmental screenings provide parents with the opportunity to address concerns, facilitate a support system, and practice parenting skills.

Lending library is available for parents to take books home and read to their children in an effort to advance literacy growth.

Resource network is available to connect families with the necessary community organizations based on their needs.

Expectant parents and families with children under the age of three will receive a $20 Wal-Mart gift card upon enrollment in our PAT program and completion of at least 5 personal visits by the end of the school year! Gift cards will be available until PAT funds are exhausted.

I invite you to come enjoy FREE refreshments and meet the families in our community at our weekly playgroup sessions. We meet every Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the newly constructed PAT room at Kirbyville Elementary. There will be a drawing for a $10 Wal-Mart gift card for enrolled families in attendance at each of the remaining group meetings.

For more information concerning PAT contact Jamie Bogacz, parent educator, at 334-2537 or jamie.bogacz@kirbyville.k12.mo.us Or click on the PAT web page
