Gaines selected Missouri Distinguished Principal by MAESP...

Addie Gaines, principal at Kirbyville Elementary School, has been selected as this year’s Missouri Distinguished Principal from the Southwest District of the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals (MAESP).

She is one of 12 principals from MAESP districts around the state who will be honored March 10 at a reception and banquet at Tan-Tar-A Resort at Osage Beach.  The event will be held in conjunction with the annual MAESP Spring Conference.  This is the 23rd year that MAESP has held the banquet.

She received her undergraduate degree from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, her master’s degree from Missouri State University in Springfield, and her specialist degree from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.

Gaines has been elementary principal in Kirbyville for 10 years. In addition to her elementary principal duties, she serves as the federal programs coordinator, the curriculum director, and the special services program coordinator. She has been in education for 23 years, including 11 years as a kindergarten teacher in the Seneca R-VI School District.  She has published several articles about early childhood education and classroom management in several books and journals, as well as, online. She has made presentations at the local, state and national level.

In 2011 Kirbyville Elementary was one of 8 schools in Missouri honored as a Missouri Gold Star School and one of 4 schools in Missouri honored as a National Blue Ribbon School. The National Blue Ribbon School award is the highest recognition given to schools by the United States Department of Education.

According to Gaines, accepting the National Blue Ribbon Award on behalf of Kirbyville Elementary was a both a capstone and a cornerstone. It was a capstone, as it signified the fact that students at Kirbyville are learning and achieving at high levels. It was a cornerstone, as it is a solid foundation upon which the future can be built.
